The history of our world in 18 minutes | David Christian

History is about exploring and understanding the past: it provides context for the present and, interpreted wisely, guidelines for the future.  As such, history is a critical element of Education for World Futures.

But history, like most academic disciplines, can trend to overspecialisation and in so doing, loose so much of big picture thinking about what it means to be human.  So, enter David Christian, a pioneer and leading practitioner of Big History, a history of ultimate scope from the big bang, 13.8 billion years ago to the present.

David Christian offered his first course in Big History in 1989 and has been developing the field ever since.  His ideas and influence flourished and attracted Bill Gates who supported David Christian to establish The Big History Project https://www.bighistoryproject.com/home.  The project was launched at the TED conference at Long Beach, California (the present video) and has developed into a unique resource for teachers and students around the globe.  It examines our past, explains our present, and imagines our future:  objectives in close accord with the vision of EWF.

We strongly recommend that you view this remarkable video; a soaring vision of humanity from a perspective of 13.8 billion years: all of time as we know it.
